My Girlfriend's 21st Birthday

16 July 2008

21st Birthday Suprise For Girlfriend

It was my girfriend's 21st birthday yesterday so I thought I would write a bit about what I did and have planned.

We were both due to go in to work in the morning, but I said I would pop round her house to see her before she left (she only lives round the corner). I had printed out some A4 'banners' and blown up a couple of balloons attached (see photo). Before I went to her house I tied four or 5 of these creations up to 5 telegraph poles along her route to work.

I then arrived at her house, gave her a couple of small presents (a box of nice chocolates, a Radley pencil case and Ipod holder) and wished her a happy birthday and proceeded to leave for work. On the way to work I recieved a phone call from her saying 'I cant believe you did that!'. Brownie point 1!

We had decided to both take a half day at work, so leaving at 12 I left to see her again. I said we could go wherever she wanted and this lead us on a road truip to Hastings for the afternoon. It was pretty windy, but as we were walking along the sea front I told her about the main present I had bought her...

21st Birthday PresentsI had booked us a fancy room in a hotel in Strand, London for when we are back from holiday in a couple of weeks. We are going to see the new Take That musical 'Never Forget' which she was ecstatic about. I was thinking of possibly going for a walk to China Town before hand to have a posh chinese meal!

Last but not least (which I can take no credit for), she is having a big party this weekend for friends and family which I will write a bit about later on as its all hush hush at the moment!

The Supercar Experience

08 July 2008

One thing that I strongly feel is a MUST DO for a male turning 21 is driving your dream car round a well known track.

There is so much choice around now with regards to the type of car andf circuit. The most popular super car types are an Aston Martin, Ferrari, Lamorghini or Audi R8, however there are many more such as the Lotus Elise and various Porsches.

Unfortunately this is something I missed out on for my 21st birthday, however the Silverstone circuit is just around the corner (3 hours away!) and I have booked myself in for a go in the Gallardo!

21st Birthday Decorations

08 July 2008

21st Birthday BannersIf you are after 21st birthday decorations then you simply NEED to visit Party Delights or Party Box!

They both offer a huge range of 21st birthday accessories, banners, confetti, balloons, candles, napkins, shimmer, straws (the list goes on!).

They both also offer personalised banners which was pretty cool, although Party Delights go the whole way and actually print the 6ft/10ft banners for you. This however comes at a cost but it definately look like they are worth it!

My better half just bought some decoartions from these shops which encouraged me to write about it in the blog. I was just amazed how cheap the 21st birthday decorations were!

If any of you purchase any decorations from either of these sites, make sure you send your party pics in for the site!

For 21st birthday decoartions these guys are simply the best.

Dead Fred Pen Holder

05 July 2008

I always thought these were really cool but they were always sold out wherever I looked; however on my travels to Bluewater the other day I saw a whole batch of them in the G4 gadget shop and had to buy one!

They are a really cool little gadget for anyone that doesn't take life too seriously. Mine is currently residing on my desk at work and it is a really good finishing touch.

There is a whole collection too! Some of you may have seen the Voodoo Knife Block in our latest gadgets section and there is also 'Splat Stanley' mug holder.

Turning 21 Is A Big Deal!

04 June 2008

The following post was kindly written by the team at A1 Gifts, a website providing gifts to buy for all special occasions.

Introduction

Turning 21 is a big deal. This landmark birthday finally sees you get all the benefits of adulthood so it is nice to mark the occasion with a special party for family and friends.

There are all kinds of themes you could choose for a 21st birthday party. Some are general and some can be tailored to suit the person who is turning 21. Let`s take a look at some popular 21st birthday party themes.

Popular birthday party themes

  • The 21st theme: here the theme of the party specifically marks the 21st birthday. So, you could for example, decorate the party with 21st balloons, table cloths, decorations, flags and bunting. You could make this even more special by colour co-ordinating all of your decorations or by personalising them to show the name of the birthday girl or boy.
  • The Fancy Dress theme: fancy dress is a fun way to make a party go with a bang and a lot of young people will really enjoy dressing up. You can keep things general here and just invite guests to dress up as they like or you could put a theme in place instead. So, for example, you could have a school days, molls and gangsters, film star, pop star or 1920s theme, for example.
  • The Black Tie theme: if you prefer you could make the 21st party a really special occasion by making things a little more formal by asking all guests to wear evening wear such as black tie for the men and evening dresses for the women.
  • The Personal theme: it`s always a nice touch to theme the party in such a way that really appeals to the person who is turning 21. So, for example, if the birthday boy or girl really like a specific TV show then you could ask all the guests to turn up as characters from the show and you could decorate the room or hall with suitable decorations.

Co-ordinating the party

Birthdays parties will be so much more memorable if you take a little extra time to make sure that the decoration, food, music and entertainment are all co-ordinated. So, for example, if you were to have a 1950s theme here you could decorate the room or the hall that you use for the party in a 1950s style and you could hire a band that can dress up in the right styles and play the right kind of music.

Conclusion

Given that the 21st birthday is such a special event it is always nice to make sure that the gift you give is one that can be treasured. This doesn`t mean that you have to spend a lot of money on 21st birthday gifts but it is important to choose well here. Popular 21st gifts include jewellery, glassware, photo frames and albums and commemorative items that mark the person`s actual birth date.

Bake Me A Cake!

03 June 2008

Beautiful CakeUsually if a cake was required for a birthday or any other type of celebration for that matter I would pop down to Tesco and buy one of the small range of cakes they have in store. That whole idea changed when I came across a fantastic blog by a professional cake designer called Trudy.

The Bake Me A Cake Blog features many examples of her work and the picture to the right is one of my favourites. Trudy is based in Surrey in the South East of the UK and will design cakes for any type of celebratory event whether its birthday parties, weddings or Christmas. What's more she can even deliver the cake right to your door (locally) for a small extra charge ensuring it arrives in perfect condition and fresh as ever.

Please take a moment to visit the Bake Me A Cake website and have a look at some of her beautiful work.

Toffee Vodka, Skittles Vodka, ANYTHING Vodka!

03 June 2008

I was browsing through moneysavingexpert forums today when something absolutely brilliant grabbed my attention. It was a thread somebody had created about Toffee Vodka and how to make it, so I thought I would save this money saving and party making topic with you! It really is simple.

Toffe Vodka: Simply buy a cheap bottle of Vodka and pour a large pack of Werthers Originals in. You may need to drink some of the Vodka first to stop overflowing though.

The toffee's will take approximately 2-3 hours to fully dissolve but once this has happened you should store in the freezer until ready to consume. Vodka does not freeze and therefore the beverage will be ice cold when you are ready to drink it.

The beauty of this recipe is that it can be used with a wide range of other sweets to create your own unique flvaoured Vodka's. I am yet to try any of these but will make sure I do soon! Here are some others you can experiment with:

Skittles Vodka: Buy 2 bags of Skittles and take the green skittles out. Pour into your Vodka and leave to dissolve for a couple of hours.

Mars Vodka: As above but with Mars bars (use 1-5 depending on thickness required).

Pear Drops Vodka: As above with a pack of pair drops

Refreshers Vodka: As above with a pack or packs of Refreshers

Creme Egg Vodka: As above with a pack of Mini Creme Eggs or a couple of original Creme Eggs.

Anything You Want Vodka: As you can see, it appears that any type of sweets/chocolate can be used to make an array of different party Vodka. Have a go, try some of your favourite sweets and let me know what you came up with and the outcome! Happy drinking!

How To Make Vodka Jelly

21 May 2008

Vodka JellyI was browsing around for more ideas on a forum, and somebody had suggested having a themed 21st birthday party with vodka jelly. I thought this was a great idea, and so I had a look for some recipes.

After studying some recipes across different websites I have devised the following:

Ingredients:

  • 135g pack of Fruit Jelly
  • 250ml Vodka (Any brand)
  • 150ml Boiling Water
  • 200ml Cold Water

Instructions:

  1. Pour 150ml of boiling water into a bowl.
  2. Break up the jelly and put in the bowl to dissolve.
  3. Add 200ml of cold water.
  4. Add the Vodka.
  5. Pour into any moulds and leave in the fridge to set overnight.

If you do not have a pack of jelly that is 135g or you would like to make more than this amount then just simply use 80% of the required amount as per the jelly instructions and make up the complete amount using 20% Vodka.

It is very important that you do not use too much, too little as the jelly just wont set properly. Good luck and be safe!
